I play on low so i get the best framerate, but if my computer could support medium/high with the same FPS i would put it on that. for me, FPS is more important than looks. although on low the forcefields do look slightly less visible which is one downside...

as zerg

5 for all hatches
4 for all queens
1 for main army, e.g. lings
2 for the other units that need seperate micro e.g. banelings
2 sometimes for muta
3 for casters like infestor
6789 i use rarely for individual hatches that are extra or just, overseers and stuff

I have 2gb ram and my graphics card is worse than yours, but I'm on 32bit XP (i know its so old!) and i did get painfully long load times when my graphics were on medium/high. but i turned almost everything down to low, apart from shaders, and that seems to have fixed it. it alt tabs quick, loading ...
