go colossus + the termolance upgrade.
this costs quite a bit though so if you can only expose less resources, go twilight council + zealot speed upgrade.

Yeah from the few times I've played protoss, the Thermolance upgrade is indispensable, and Collossi aren't worth it without the upgrade.

this is right, before patch 9 or so they were worth it but now they can't hit & run anymore and so the tech is indispensable, as you said
