it seems like we can with a bit of luck. await a new patch for age of empies, hte support will be the same as ES did, so i guess people wil still be banned, accounts maanged if something happened and so on. plus, viper said a few days ago, that the emails sent to ES were still being read

they can't make the fanpatch mandatory due to legal reasons, which is completely understandable imo

two statements of important guys, Viper and that new community manager of Robot Entertainment::

I already offered them the use of our updated maps, bug fixes and balance changes for a patch of their own. That offer was then passed on to their development team, although I really do doubt that they have plans for a patch at such an early stage.

There are legal reasons such as the people who did the work not working for Microsoft.
Microsoft does everything by the book, it has to, so it's not a simple drag and drop of the fan patch to some website and calling it a day. There has to be loads of testing, which costs a lot of money, localization and then more testing.

Robot is going to examine the possibilities of another patch for Age 3 in the near future.
