Here you go Soccerman - KillahSquirrel vs. Rufio_Eht

Post by Killahsquirrel »

My Dutch vs Rufio's Ottos. He goes for a later attack on me, and I'm able to fend it off, we both go Fortress and he starts sending Spahi and Mamelukes while making Jans and Abus. I go for Skirms/Huss to start then start mixing in other units. There's a long calm before the storm in this game, although I use that time to raid his vills with Hussars that I scouted with Spies and hit a few jackpots.

Well, definately not by best game...I did a fairly poor job of producing vills and military, and actually using my resources. I have gotten very rusty in mid-game and late-game it seems. However, I think I did a fairly decent job raiding the Otto's eco and spying.

This is the wrong game. It's a FFA where you were idle and resigned 1 minute into it...

Ok. I had to watch it twice. It was an entertaining game to watch for sure.

I think you gave yourself a fair assessment. However, what to improve:
1. Use your envoy and explore the entire map. He had vils in the open that you could have slaughtered when you saw them in the fog of war. It's also good to sit him right outside an otto's base to see if/when he sends vils forward to an FB so you can follow them. Use the high LOS to keep him out of view. Since he somewhat turtled you could have (should have?) built an fb.
2. As dutch you should definitely build a saloon for mercs.
3. Get the banks up quicker when you have the resource to spend.
4. Once you've scouted your surroundings, get more hunts back to your tc.
5. From your scouting you would have seen that he didn't have a lot of food from hunts near his TC. That gives him few options: leave the area for hunts, ship food, go mainly abus. That tells you how to counter him.
6. Shift-click vils building structures. Would have saved you some good vil time.
7. Good job out-booming him. That's what won you the game.
8. Skirms don't counter hussars. But you did a good job when he was heavy abus to go hussars.
9. When he's in your base, raid in his. Pick off a few vils, etc. Most people can't fight two battles when they are concentrated on fighting in your base.
10. Why not ship the church and put up 2 more banks and get the military shipments? Upgrade your military when you get to for. Esp. the pikes.
11. Good job with the spies later on.

Not bad gameplay overall.

Rufio, you let this one get away from you.
1. Be more aggressive w/ottos. You attacked way to late. If you're gonna sit in your base, go FF or FI.
2. Scout. If you see he's gonna ff (rax in his base), spam jans and abus around 7-8 mins and he's in trouble. If you do this you must build an FB much closer to his base.
3. The map screwed you as you had to go get hunts.
4. Once you get to fort, throw up your two other tc's and pump out vils.
5. If he's taking to turtling, use this to gain map control.
6. Send military with vils you send away from the tc. You had many unguarded vils to the east.
7. When Mr. Envoy comes into your tc's sight, garrison the vils, grab the guns and waste his annoying little @$$.
8. You sat on a lot of wood. tc's tp's or another rax/artillery foundary.
9. You sat on shipments in fort. I know you were waiting on the food for spahi, but eco theory at this point is not a bad shipment. Nor would the gold have been a bad shipment.
10. Like squirrely, build a saloon. You had the gold for the mercs.
11. Take the cheaper merc's out of your deck. Worthless card unless you have 3-4 merc shipments. 2 falcs is much better.

Good, very entertaining game. Keep playing, it helps.

Someone let me know if I missed anything..
