Anybody ever been to new york and got any tips on a nice, clean, friendly priced place to stay?

I went to NYC ONCE. Stayed in a OLD hotel just south of Central Park down the street from Carnegie Hall, it's called The Salisbury Hotel. You can tell the place is OLD, but it was pretty clean. Close to a subway line.
