Something we learned in a game last night - Bow riders

Post by IndyBrit »

Everyone knows bow riders pwn (learn that if you don't).

However, it turns out CDBs (having great coat but no other upgrades) mow bow riders down. I guess I could have done the math to know that (I think CDBs have base 12 attack, 235 hp with coats, and 40% RR). After all my troops were killed in a losing withdrawl to my base, the CDBs in desperation fought back. 22 CDBs mowed down a group of bow riders (9 or 11 maybe) with chief and took zero losses (might have lost one, but I think no).

Just something to keep in mind. I'm curious whether they have the same success against 'goons. Might be a new angle to the French there, put some CDBs in your troop mix. :)

Only some ranged calvary have range resistance while others have hand (like manchus). Don't ask me why ES designed the game like this -- pretty dumb IMO but it is by design.

If you ask me, ranged cav is supposed to be a counter to hand cav. When a unit counters another, it should resist the type of damage inflicted by its counter. Hand cav does hand damage. Dragoons are counter to hand cav. Thus, dragoons should resist hand damage. Bow riders do, cav archers do and black riders do. Dragoons are like black riders, but they have ranged resistance. Don't ask me why there is an inconsistency here... it just makes dragoons darn difficult to kill with ranged infantry, which is supposed to counter them.

Glad you posted this, Indy. CDB's are the only vils that have such strong ranged resistance, and that enables them to hold off the Bow Rider lamage.

Also this unique features of CDB's in a manner makes them more susceptible to raiding. Since they have no hand restistance and more HP, while a standard villager has 20% melee resistance but less HP. Same number of hits to kill either with cav, but a CDB is 1.2 villagers, not one. I guess they walk faster though and are less likely to die of ranged attack.

Blah -- at least we get uniqueness here!

I assume that you do not want to lose your CdB's so i rarly have seen bow riders by themselves. What do you do about it when they are grouped with ax riders?
